DIGITAL DETOX & WELLNESS
A Digital Detox is a temporary period of disconnecting from all digital devices. The purpose is to unplug, recharge, decompress and introspect. It's a chance to wholeheartedly focus on real-life human interaction, engage with the environment, reduce stress, lower anxiety, examine and redefine your relationship with technology, and be fully present in the physical world. It's a sliver of time where you step back from the 'always-on' culture and connect with what really matters!

There are several reasons why people opt for a Digital Detox. These could range from loss of productivity and focus, negative outcomes from digital engagements (obsession, trolling, cyberstalking, bullying), impact on real-life relationships, drain on energy, excessive online spending, sleep and other disorders, excessive stress due to constant digital engagement, or a desire to create authentic relationships and balance in life.
The Digital Detox is as an on-site retreat programme that lasts between 2 to 7 days. During this time, you disconnect all digital devices, focus on true, real-life connections and deepen your sense of self without the digital distractions. This programme not only gives you a break from the digital world but prepares you for a more healthy relationship with technology. You learn to set personal boundaries around your use of technology – which you can then take back into your day-to-day life. And you gain lifestyle skills to keep you grounded even in the most stressed, and digitally overwhelming times.
Most people experience improved sleep, focus and concentration, get a proper break from work and regular life, and feel much calmer and relaxed. However, people who have a severe digital addiction may need a longer detox and are likely to become irritable, restless, moody or feel excessively bored. These are normal withdrawal symptoms that will ease with therapy.
Please note that the idea of a Digital Detox is not to eliminate technology from your life. Rather it is to allow your brain to recover and take a break from the incessant information overload of the digital world. And to rediscover yourself and your social skills!

The Digital Detox Therapies are held at my residence at Ketti Valley, in the Nilgiris. Suitable accommodation is arranged at a nearby location that is suitable requirements for the programme.

We approached Bindiya at a time when our marriage was in a bad state. We could not stand being together and stuck only because of the kids but couldn't agree on anything. It was like slow death until things got so bad that we had to take a call on if we should stay together or not. It was not easy, opening our wounds up, but by the end of it, we realised how much we had pent up and never managed to share without getting into a fight. This amazing process helped us understand each other, to heal, become friends and discover that underneath it all, we loved each other and it was worth fighting for, not for the kids alone, but for ourselves.
I was crushed when I found out that my husband was having an affair. I couldn't focus on anything and kept crying all the time. I put on weight, lost my self-esteem and had given up on everything. Then I started counselling with Bindiya as my husband was not willing to do it. She helped me pick up the pieces of my broken self, and made me build my own self-worth and examine issues that went way beyond my husband. He saw the change in me and agreed to come for counselling. What do you do when you really like your spouse but just grow over them? When you stay together because nothing dramatic has happened to part, except that you know this is not what you need? I spoke to close friends who said I was acting crazy so we decided to seek professional help. We had different personalities, needs and ambitions. We started the process with Bindiya. 6 of us colleagues made a plan to attend the 3 day Digital Wellness Programme, and it was simply awesome. It totally changed the way we use technology, or as Bindiya says, "how we allow technology to use us." We came back to with really good insights into our relationship and usage of phones, internet and lappies, and our dependence patterns. I attended a seminar with Bindiyaji at the Tech Summit in Ahmedabad and it was a real eye-opener. She spoke about why tech is so addictive, what it does to our brains, relationships, work etc. I had never looked at it like that. Then she introduced us to the concept of digital wellness and how to practice it in our lives. The way she explained it was really simple and mindblowing. Normally speakers get very heavy on these topics but she made us laugh and gave good relatable examples. Her practical approach and tips for curtailing phone usage have actually helped me and my friends. We are lucky to have attended the seminar.
As a group of friends, we wanted to do something different. After looking at many options we found the novel JOMO Breaks, to explore the 'Joy of Missing Out'. We went for it, stayed in a beautiful cottage after handing over all our gadgets and embarked on the best 4 days we have ever had together. Bindiya guided us on how to move our focus from devices to the real stuff like conversations, singing, meditating, art, bonfires, cooking and learning the art of living in the moment. It's hard to describe how good that forced freedom from devices felt like. We all felt light, relaxed, happy and more bonded than ever. This is a MUST-DO with people you care about. Incredible!
My son was suffering from very bad phone addiction problems. He just couldn't leave his phone. If we tried to take it away he would get very angry, stop eating and breaking things. failed at college and was out. We had to offer him many incentives to make him agree to attend the Digital Detox Retreat It was 3 very hard weeks of ups and downs, bad moods, tantrums, him wanting to go back and threatening us. However, Bindiya handled it with great care and discipline. She never got angry or impatient and guided him week by week. to recovery. We could have never done it without her and hope that other parents take their children to her befoe it becomes this bad.
I went through a very stressful phase and was always angry and agitated. I was not sleeping well, always anxious, on my phone and never all there with my family. My wife kept saying I was married to my phone. I am grateful I found Bindiya's Digital Detox program, one of the best things that happened to me. It made me reconnect with myself along with rediscovering simple pleasures like nature, food, reading and I got to reflect on things I ignored for too long. I came back calmer, more present, receptive and energized. I am now diligently practising my daily 'Tech Free' hours. Feels wonderful.
